# Hub Descriptions

## What it is

Omniscio is made of a lot of parts. There are the **built-in tools** (Skills, Recipes,
Gmail, AI Council, Mission Control, and dozens more), the **sidebar categories** that
group them (AI Tools, Productivity, Communication, …), and **your own projects**. Each
one of those is a "hub".

**Hub Descriptions gives every hub a short, plain-English line saying what it is and when
it matters** — and lets you rewrite any of those lines yourself.

The point is not decoration. Those lines are what your **Chief of Staff** and any agent
you ask actually read. Without them an agent knows a hub called "Coffer" exists but has
no idea what it does, so it can't sensibly point you at it. With them, it does.

## Where to find it

### Where the descriptions come from

Every built-in tool and every sidebar category ships with a **default description already
written** — you don't have to fill anything in for this to work.

Your own projects start blank, because only you know what they are. You can write a line
yourself, or press a button and have AI draft one from the project's folder and README.

Whatever you write always wins over the built-in default.

### Editing them

**Settings → Tools & Maintenance → Hub Descriptions.**

The page lists every hub grouped into **Tools & integrations**, **Categories**, and **Your
projects**, with a filter box at the top so you can find one quickly. Each hub has:

- an editable text box (up to 240 characters, with a live counter),
- **Regenerate with AI** — writes a fresh description for that one hub. It only fills the
box; nothing is saved until you press **Save**, so you always see it before it counts.
- **Reset to default** (a built-in tool or category) or **Clear** (one of your projects) —
only shown when you've actually customised that hub.

A small label on each row tells you whether the current text is the built-in **Default** or
your own **Custom** line.

There is deliberately no "regenerate everything" button — each line is generated one at a
time, on purpose, so a stray click can't spend money across a hundred hubs.

## How it behaves

### Who reads the descriptions

Two places, both pull-only — this never gets forced into every session's prompt:

- **Your Chief of Staff** gets the list of switched-on hubs (with descriptions) each time
it starts, so it knows what your Omniscio actually contains.
- **Any agent that asks** can read them from `GET /hubs`, which returns every built-in tool
and category with its description and whether it's currently turned on. Your projects are
deliberately left out of that list — they go to your Chief of Staff, not to any agent that
  happens to ask.

### Cost

Writing and editing descriptions is free. Only **Regenerate with AI** spends anything: it's
a single short call to a cheap model (Haiku), capped by a daily spending limit and a
rate limit, and it only ever runs when you click the button.

### Turning it off

It's **on by default**. If you don't want the editor, Settings → Lab → *Hub Descriptions*
turns the section off with one flip. The descriptions themselves keep working for your
Chief of Staff and agents either way — the toggle only hides the editing screen.
