# Appearance & display settings

Controls for how Omniscio looks — color scheme, sidebars, text size, motion, viewer options, and the question widget style.

## Color theme {#theme}

Sets whether the app uses a dark background, a light background, or follows your operating system's setting. The default is **Dark**. Change this to **Light** for a light background, or to **System** if you want Omniscio to automatically switch between dark and light to match whatever your OS is set to. This setting affects every part of the app. You can switch it at any time without restarting. Accepted values: `dark`, `light`, or `system`.

## Hide hubs sidebar {#projectsSidebarHidden}

Collapses the left-hand hubs (projects) sidebar to give your chat area more room. When collapsed, a thin gutter remains at the edge of the window — click it to slide the sidebar back open. This is handy on a small monitor or when you want to focus entirely on a conversation. You can also toggle it with the keyboard shortcut **Ctrl+\\**. Accepted values: on or off (off by default, meaning the sidebar is visible).

## Hide sessions sidebar {#sessionsSidebarHidden}

Collapses the sessions sidebar so the chat area fills more of the screen. A thin gutter stays visible so you can click to reopen it at any time. Use this when you are focused on a single long-running session and do not need to switch between others. The keyboard shortcut **Ctrl+Shift+\\** toggles it. Accepted values: on or off (off by default, meaning the sidebar is visible).

## Desktop text size {#fontSize}

Controls how large the text appears throughout Omniscio on your desktop. The default is **Medium**. Go larger if you find the text hard to read, or smaller if you want more content visible at once. Seven sizes are available: Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, XX-Large, and XXX-Large. You can also step through sizes with **Ctrl+=** (larger) and **Ctrl+-** (smaller) from anywhere in the app. This setting only affects the desktop; phones use a separate Mobile text size control. Accepted values: `extra-small`, `small`, `medium`, `large`, `extra-large`, `xx-large`, or `xxx-large`.

## Motion & polish {#motionPolishEnabled}

Master switch for all of Omniscio's visual flourishes — hover lifts, animated stats, ambient backgrounds, depth shadows, smooth reordering, and more. On by default. Turn it off to quiet everything at once and get a completely static interface. When on, you can tune each effect individually using the sub-settings below. Omniscio also quiets these effects automatically when your OS reports reduced-motion or low-power mode is active. Safe to toggle at any time. Accepted values: on or off.

## Interactive surfaces {#polishInteractive}

When Motion & polish is on, this sub-setting controls whether buttons lift slightly when hovered and whether the active session in the sidebar gets a glowing accent bar. On by default. Turn it off for a flat, static button and sidebar style. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Accepted values: on or off.

## Dashboard motion {#polishDashboard}

When Motion & polish is on, this makes the numbers on the Insights/dashboard count up when the panel opens, and stat cards cascade in one after another. On by default. Turn it off if you prefer the dashboard to appear instantly and statically. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Accepted values: on or off.

## Ambient backgrounds {#polishAmbient}

When Motion & polish is on, this adds a slow-drifting accent gradient behind the welcome screen and the "all clear" idle state. On by default. Turn it off for a plain, static background on those screens. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Accepted values: on or off.

## Depth & elevation {#polishDepth}

When Motion & polish is on, this gives panels and cards a soft drop shadow so they appear to float above the background, adding a sense of depth. On by default. Turn it off if you prefer a completely flat layout without shadows. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Accepted values: on or off.

## View crossfades {#polishViewCrossfade}

When Motion & polish is on, switching to and from the dashboard fades smoothly rather than cutting abruptly. On by default. Turn it off if you find the transition distracting or if you want instantaneous view switches. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Accepted values: on or off.

## Glide on reorder {#polishGlideReorder}

When Motion & polish is on, sidebar sessions slide smoothly into their new positions when the list re-sorts, instead of jumping. On by default. Turn it off for immediate list reordering with no animation. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Accepted values: on or off.

## Inbox Zero celebration {#polishInboxZero}

When Motion & polish is on, clearing the last item that needs your attention triggers a brief "you're all caught up" visual moment. On by default. Turn it off if you prefer the inbox to go quiet without any animation. Has no effect when the main Motion & polish setting is off. Related setting: Gmail Inbox Zero Celebration (`gmailInboxZeroCelebration`) which specifically covers the Gmail inbox. Accepted values: on or off.

## Animated logo {#animatedLogo}

Lets the Omniscio logo swirl in the title bar, Quick Launch and the startup loading card. On by default. In the title bar and Quick Launch it plays only while you are using that window: it starts still, begins on your first mouse move or key press, and stops when the window is in the background, minimized, or untouched for two minutes. Turn it off for exactly the old still logo, instantly and with no restart; you can also right-click the title-bar logo and untick **Animated logo**. Your computer's reduce-motion setting, Low Power Mode and turning off Motion & polish all keep it still whatever this says. Accepted values: on or off.

## Diff minimap {#diffMinimap}

Shows a VSCode-style minimap overview panel on the right-hand side of the modified file in the diff viewer. The minimap gives you a bird's-eye view of the whole file so you can quickly jump to any section. On by default. Turn it off for a cleaner view that uses all the available horizontal space for the diff content itself. Accepted values: on or off.

## Diff syntax highlighting {#diffSyntaxHighlight}

Applies language-aware color coding to the code in the diff viewer, making it easier to read changes in context. On by default. Turn it off if you prefer a plain monochrome diff. Accepted values: on or off.

## Diff word wrap {#diffWordWrap}

When on, long lines in the diff viewer wrap onto the next line rather than requiring horizontal scrolling. On by default. Turn it off to keep each line on one row and scroll horizontally as needed — useful when horizontal alignment of code matters. Accepted values: on or off.

## File viewer minimap {#fileViewerMinimap}

Shows a VSCode-style minimap overview panel on the right side of the file viewer, giving a high-level visual map of the whole file. On by default. Turn it off for a cleaner reading experience or to reclaim horizontal width. Accepted values: on or off.

## File viewer word wrap {#fileViewerWordWrap}

When on, long lines in the file viewer wrap instead of extending off-screen. On by default, so you avoid horizontal scrolling when reading files with long lines. Turn it off to let long lines extend off-screen and scroll horizontally instead. Accepted values: on or off.

## Status shape icons {#statusShapeIconsEnabled}

Adds a small shape icon to each session's status dot in the sidebar: a bell for "needs you," a question bubble for a pending question, a clipboard for pending approvals, and an alert symbol for errors. This makes status readable even if you have difficulty distinguishing colors. On by default. Turn it off to return to plain colored dots without icons. Accepted values: on or off.

## Show git branch in header {#showCurrentBranchInHeader}

Displays the active git branch name next to the session name in the header. Useful if you run multiple sessions across different branches and want a quick reminder of which branch each one is on. Off by default. Can also be turned off for a specific hub individually in that hub's settings. Accepted values: on or off.

## Show structured agent prose inline {#promoteRealMessages}

Between tool calls, the agent often writes headings, bullet lists, or summaries. When this is on, that in-between prose appears as a regular message bubble in the conversation — the same as the agent's direct replies. When off, the same prose is folded into the small grey activity row that summarizes tool calls (you can still expand it with a click). On by default. Turn off if you only want the agent's final answers visible. Accepted values: on or off.

## Show tree diagrams as interactive trees {#treeDiagramWidgetEnabled}

Agents often draw a hierarchy with line characters (`├──`, `└──`). That drawing only holds its shape while the block is wider than its longest line, so on a phone it wraps and a label folds into the guide rail, destroying the structure. When this is on, such a block is drawn as a real tree instead: labels wrap under themselves, each branch folds away when you click its row or the guide line beside it, and a description written under a label stays with that label. Nothing starts collapsed. A three-dot menu next to the copy button flips any single diagram back to the exact text the agent wrote, and copying always gives you that original text either way. Only blocks that can be read as a tree in full are affected — real code, tables, drawn panels, and anything tagged with a language are never touched. On by default. Accepted values: on or off.

## Stable question position {#stableQuestionPosition}

When you are navigating through multiple questions in the question widget, this locks the question text at a fixed position on screen so your eyes don't have to re-find it as you move between questions. The answer pills extend below the locked area. On by default. Turn off to return to the original behavior where each question renders at its own height. Accepted values: on or off.

## Open PDFs in app viewer {#openPdfInAppViewer}

When on, clicking a PDF link or file opens the document in Omniscio's built-in PDF viewer instead of launching your computer's default PDF application. On by default. Turn off if you prefer PDF files to open in your system's PDF reader (such as Adobe Acrobat or your browser). Accepted values: on or off.

## Copy full paths {#copyFullPaths}

When on, copying a file path from agent output puts the complete absolute path (e.g. `C:\Users\you\project\src\file.ts`) on the clipboard. When off, the agent outputs a shorter relative path. On by default; turn it off if you would rather copy the shorter relative path. Accepted values: on or off.

## Gmail Inbox Zero celebration {#gmailInboxZeroCelebration}

Shows a brief animation when you archive or handle the last email in your Gmail inbox, giving you a small moment of celebration for reaching inbox zero. On by default. Turn it off if you would rather not see the animation. This is specific to Gmail; the main inbox has its own celebration toggle (`polishInboxZero` under Motion & polish). Accepted values: on or off.

## Question widget {#questionWidgetEnabled}

When on, Omniscio shows an interactive card with buttons or input fields whenever the agent asks a structured question, rather than requiring you to type a freeform reply. Answering with one click or a short fill-in is faster and more reliable than typing. On by default. Turn off to disable the widget entirely and respond to all questions by typing. Related: the sub-settings below control the widget's look and behavior. Accepted values: on or off.

## Format question options {#formatQuestionOptions}

When on, lettered answer choices (A, B, C, …) in the question widget are displayed as clean indented sub-items rather than bullet points, making multi-option questions easier to scan. On by default. Turn off to show options as standard bullet points. Accepted values: on or off.

## Raised button style (question widget) {#qwRaisedChromeEnabled}

Gives the option buttons and Send button in the question widget a glossy, raised look — a soft highlight along the top edge and a drop shadow — matching the style of the app's other filled buttons. On by default. Turn off for flat, borderless buttons in the widget. Accepted values: on or off.

## Highlight recommended option {#qwRecommendedHighlightEnabled}

When an agent marks one answer choice as recommended (its text ends with "(recommended)"), this setting outlines that option with a soft green glow inside the question widget, so the suggestion stands out at a glance. On by default. Turn off to show all options with equal visual weight. Accepted values: on or off.

## Auto-inject question format hint {#qwFormatHintInjectionEnabled}

When on, Omniscio silently appends a short formatting instruction to the first message you send in each new session. This nudges the agent to phrase its clarifying questions in a way the question widget can parse. The hint is invisible in your chat view — only the message sent to the model carries it. Turn off if you do not want any extra text reaching the model. On by default. Accepted values: on or off.

## Report missed question widget {#qwMissReportingEnabled}

When on, a "Report missed question widget" option appears in the menu on agent messages. Tapping it captures the case as a pending example so the question detection parser can be improved. Useful if the widget frequently fails to appear when the agent asks a question. On by default; turn it off to hide the menu option. Accepted values: on or off.

## Auto-detect questions {#autoDetectQuestions}

When on, Omniscio looks for questions in the agent's reply even when the agent has not formatted them in the structured way the widget normally expects. This catches more conversational or implicit questions. On by default. Turn off if the widget appears too often on messages that are not really questions. Accepted values: on or off.

## Confirm before sending unanswered questions {#confirmUnansweredQuestions}

When on, Omniscio shows a confirmation dialog if you try to submit a response while a question in the widget has not been answered. This prevents accidentally sending an incomplete reply. Off by default. Turn on if you often miss a question in a multi-part widget before hitting Send. Accepted values: on or off.
