# Archive Insights AI Digest (opt-in AI cleanup suggestions for the senders you archive)

## What it is

SuperMail already tracks your **Archive Insights** — which senders and domains you archive, whether you opened them first, and how long you looked. The **AI Digest** turns that into concrete cleanup suggestions: an AI reviews the senders you archive (especially the ones you never open) and recommends what to do about each — set up a **filter**, **unsubscribe**, or **mute** — and every suggestion has a one-click **Create filter** button that opens the filter editor pre-filled.

It reaches you two ways:

- **On demand** — in SuperMail → Archive Insights there's an **AI Digest** section with an **"Analyze with AI"** button. Click it to get suggestions right now, plus a one-line summary of your archiving pattern (how much you archive without opening, and how long you spend reading first).
- **Automatic** (opt-in cadence) — a digest **inbox card** posted on a schedule (Daily / Weekly), so you get cleanup suggestions even when SuperMail is closed. The card's button takes you to SuperMail to act on them.

It is **OFF by default** and in development (behind the Lab / dev gate) until it ships.

## Where to find it

### Turning it on

Settings → **Email & Summaries** → **Archive Insights AI digest** — a toggle plus a cadence picker (Off / Daily / Weekly). The row only appears once the feature is revealed (shipped, or via the Settings → Lab toggle / `AMC_SHOW_SUPERMAIL_ARCHIVE_DIGEST=1`).

## How it behaves

### Privacy — what leaves your device

To make **specific** suggestions (e.g. "filter Geek Square"), the **sender and subject** of the emails you archive are sent to the AI provider. That is stated on the toggle. If you do **not** opt in, **nothing** is sent. Everything else stays on your machine: the analysis snapshot used by the automatic digest is **encrypted at rest**, and the record of what has already been suggested is stored **hashed** (no readable email address on disk).

### Limits / planned follow-ups

- Week-over-week **trends** (how your archiving changed vs last week) are a planned follow-up — today the digest shows your current-period pattern plus the recommendations.
- The automatic card's button opens Settings → Email & Summaries (where "Open Supermail" reaches Archive Insights); a direct jump to the Archive Insights view is a follow-up.

Contract: `supermail-archive-digest-contract`.

## For agents

### How it works (under the hood)

- The SuperMail screen computes a bounded shortlist of "candidates" — the senders/domains you archive, minus any you've already filtered — from your local Archive Insights data. It never digs into files on disk.
- It sends that shortlist to the main app, which runs **one cheap AI call** with a per-account **daily spend cap**, validates the result, and returns the recommendations. The AI key never touches the SuperMail screen, and the AI can only ever recommend a sender that was actually sent to it — a safeguard so a crafted email subject can't hijack the analysis.
- **It never repeats itself.** The on-demand button and the automatic card share ONE memory (in the main app) of what has already been suggested, and both skip senders you've already filtered — so you never see the same recommendation twice.
- The automatic card runs off the **last snapshot** your app synced while SuperMail was open; if you haven't opened SuperMail in a while, it is skipped rather than run on stale data.

Desktop-only (the analysis + snapshot never leave the device except the single AI call).
