System requirements

A machine with **16 GB of RAM** runs Omniscio comfortably; under about **14 GB**, or with **4 CPU cores or fewer**, it is treated as below the recommended floor and you get a one-time Inbox card offering Lite mode.

What it is

Omniscio runs several AI agents at the same time, so it needs more memory and processing headroom than a typical desktop app. On an underpowered computer, sessions can run slowly, stutter, or fail under heavy load.

Recommended:

  • 16 GB of RAM or more — the single biggest factor. 8–12 GB works for light use, but several busy sessions will feel slow.
  • A modern multi-core CPU (more than 4 cores).
  • Windows, macOS or Linux — the app ships for Windows (64-bit), macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Linux (AppImage); the ready-to-install downloads are on the download page.

Where to find it

There is nothing to open. The only surface is the low-spec warning card, which Omniscio raises in your Inbox once, when it detects the machine is below the floor.

How it behaves

  • The floor is measured, not guessed. Omniscio warns when physical RAM is under 13 GB (a figure chosen so a true 16 GB machine, which reports back a little less than 16, is not false-flagged) or the CPU has 4 logical cores or fewer. The card's copy still recommends 16 GB.
  • The card appears once and can be dismissed. A one-shot lowSpecWarningSeen flag means an underpowered machine is warned a single time and is never re-nagged; the card then stays in the Inbox until you dismiss it.
  • The card's button is "Turn on Lite mode". It applies the whole Lite preset in one click — a small set of existing performance settings (background power saving on, panel pre-render and frozen-panel retention off, panel-mount staggering and the session memory guard on, idle memory trim) — rather than only deep-linking to a switch. Undo it any time in Settings → Performance.
  • It never asks you to run fewer agents. Handling many agents at once is Omniscio's job; the card's advice is Lite mode, closing other memory-heavy apps, and adding RAM if you can.

For agents

  • Floor constants: RECOMMENDED_RAM_FLOOR (13 GiB) and RECOMMENDED_CPU_FLOOR (4) in src/main/services/system-health/recommended-specs.ts; the card copy recommends 16 GB.
  • The card is built and raised by src/main/services/system-health/hardware-spec-alert.ts (one-shot lowSpecWarningSeen, env kill switch weak-hardware-offer, force override AMC_FORCE_LOW_SPEC_ALERT), and its one-click action is APPLY_LITE_MODE_ACTION in src/shared/alert-actions/performance.ts.
  • The Lite preset it applies is LITE_MODE_BUNDLE in src/shared/lite-mode.ts; contract lite-mode-preset-contract.
