AI Coaching — FAQ
Short answers to the questions people ask most about AI Coaching: whether you need an API key, how artifact detail levels work, quick check-ins, mobile use, importing and exporting, deleting your data, and the 20,000-character limit.
What it is
Common questions about the AI Coaching feature in Omniscio.
Do I need an API key?
Your conversations work with any Omniscio login. But three background features — compressing your artifacts into shorter versions, generating per-artifact summaries, and building your Core Profile — need an Anthropic API key. Add one in Settings → Accounts. Without a key, everything still works, but profile-building is paused and you will see an amber banner reminding you.
What are artifact detail levels?
Every saved artifact is automatically condensed into four versions: Full (the complete text), Key Points (structured bullets), Summary (a 2-4 paragraph overview), and Micro (one or two sentences). These shorter versions are generated in the background after you save. You can choose which version is shared with your other AI sessions using the Detail level control on any artifact — or leave it on Auto and let Omniscio pick the best fit for the available space.
What are quick check-ins (snack sessions)?
Once you have completed a full interview and have a saved artifact, some topics offer a shorter 5-15 minute revisit called a Quick check-in. It is a lighter session that picks up where you left off without re-running the entire interview. Not all topics support check-ins — Foundation and Deep Analysis interviews do; Ongoing, Problem Solving, and Work-focused interviews do not.
What is the 20,000-character limit?
Artifacts are capped at 20,000 characters. This applies when editing in the app, when importing, and when Claude saves during an interview. The limit keeps artifacts manageable and ensures they fit within context windows when shared with your other sessions.
Where to find it
Does AI Coaching work on mobile?
Yes. On a phone, AI Coaching shows a bottom tab bar with four tabs: Dashboard, Sessions, Artifacts, and Profile. You can browse interview topics, open conversations, and read your artifacts. Artifact viewing on mobile is read-only — editing, restoring old versions, and deleting artifacts are desktop-only.
Can I export my data?
You can export any individual artifact as a markdown file using the Export button in the artifact viewer. You can also Copy any artifact or bookmark text to your clipboard.
Can I delete everything?
Yes. The AI Coaching dashboard has a permanent Delete all my coaching / journal / Life-Inventory data button (it asks you to type a confirmation phrase, because it cannot be undone). It wipes every coaching artifact, bookmark, Core Profile, journal entry, and Life-Inventory result — both the database rows and the on-disk files under your ~/Claude/ai-coaching folder. It is deliberately separate from the app-wide "erase all my data" privacy wipe, so a routine privacy erase never destroys your journal/coaching history, and vice-versa. You can also delete individual artifacts (the ... menu in the artifact viewer removes an artifact and all its versions, including its on-disk files) and individual bookmarks. To stop AI Coaching entirely, turn off the toggle in Settings → Features — the sidebar entry disappears, all coaching calls are blocked, and nothing is shared with your other sessions.
Can I import existing work?
Yes. If you have already done coaching-style work elsewhere (a Google Doc, a standalone Claude session, personal notes), you can import it directly into an interview topic. On the Dashboard, hover over any available (not yet completed) card and open the ... menu → Import existing work. Paste your text or load a file — the content is saved as the artifact for that topic, and the post-save pipeline (compression, Core Profile refresh) runs normally. Import is desktop-only.
How it behaves
Is my data private?
Your coaching conversations, artifacts, and bookmarks are stored locally on your device in the same database Omniscio uses for everything else. The conversations themselves run through Claude (Anthropic's API), and the background features (compression, summaries, Core Profile) also use the API. No data is sent to any third party beyond Anthropic.
Do my artifacts affect my regular sessions?
Yes — that is one of the main benefits. When you start a session in any of your real projects, a condensed version of your profile is quietly shared with Claude so it understands who you are. You control how much is shared via the Detail level control on each artifact, and you can turn the whole feature off with the "Enable AI Coaching" toggle in Settings.
