Settings redesign (tabbed pages)
The Settings redesign breaks the app's largest Settings pages into tabbed sub-pages, so a long scroll becomes a short labelled tab strip. It also folds the rarely-touched settings on a tab under an Advanced disclosure and adds live previews for a couple of controls. It changes only how the settings look, never what any setting does.
What it is
The Settings redesign breaks the app's largest Settings pages into tabbed sub-pages so a long scroll becomes a short, labelled tab strip. Instead of one tall page you scroll through, each big page splits into a handful of focused tabs you click between:
- Appearance → Theme & Visual · Sidebar · Text · Motion · Layout Mods
- Sessions → Behavior · Display · Waiting · Cost · Custom Render
- Voice & Speech → its own tab split
It also adds two touches that ride the same redesign:
- Basic / Advanced splitting — the rarely-touched "advanced" settings on a tab collapse under an Advanced disclosure, so the default view stays short and the power-user knobs are one click away rather than always on screen.
- Live previews — a couple of settings show a small live sample of what the choice looks like (the text size preview and the chat depth bubble preview update as you change them).
It changes only the presentation of settings — the tabs, the Basic/Advanced folding, and the previews. It does not add, remove, or rename any individual setting; every setting that existed before still exists, just reachable through a tab.
Where to find it
Where you see it
Open Settings and go to any of the larger pages (Appearance, Sessions, Voice & Speech): a tab strip sits at the top of the page, and the advanced settings on each tab fold under an Advanced disclosure. Smaller settings pages are unchanged.
How it behaves
Status
It shipped as the default for everyone — there is no toggle to turn it on or off. The tabbed layout is simply how these Settings pages look now. (It was previously an opt-in preview behind a Lab toggle; that toggle has been retired now that it's the default.)
Related, but separate
- New Settings layout ("rooms") — the reorganized top-level grouping of the settings nav (see new-settings-layout.md). That changes which room a setting lives in; the Settings redesign changes how an individual page is laid out with tabs. Both are shipped defaults.
- Quick setup presets — one-click Minimal / Balanced / Power-user presets — is a separate in-development feature, not part of this redesign, and stays gated for now.

new-settings-layout.md is the closest sibling — it covers the reorganised top-level grouping of the settings nav, which is a different change from this page's tabbed page layout. For anything else nearby, INDEX.md is the library index.
