Sounds and quiet hours
Five events can make a notification sound, and each one is yours to switch off or re-tune. Quiet hours drops the sound during a window you choose, or for the next hour, two or four — and never hides, delays or loses the thing the sound was about.
What it is
Settings → Notifications has one Notification Sound card and one Quiet hours card.
The sound card holds the master switch, one volume, and a row per event:
| Event | What it means | Ships |
|---|---|---|
| Needs you | A session finished a turn and is waiting for you | On — Alert Ping |
| Approval waiting | A recipe is parked waiting for your approval | On — Alert Ping |
| Session finished | A session finished a turn with nothing waiting on you | On — Alert Ping |
| Stalled | A session looks stuck | On — Soft Bell |
| Error | A session hit an error | On — Attention |
Every row has its own switch and its own sound, and the play button beside the sound is that event's test button — press it to hear exactly what will play. The master switch and the volume sit above all five: master off silences everything, and volume scales every event.
Each event was carved out of a chime Omniscio already played, so all five start on and nothing sounds different until you change it. Session finished is the plain "that turn is done" chime; approval waiting is the one that sounds when a plan or a permission request is parked on you; needs you covers everything else that wants your reply.
Quiet hours
Two controls, one rule — quiet silences the chime and nothing else:
- The daily window. A From and To time and the days it applies to. A window whose end is earlier than its start crosses midnight (the default is 22:00 → 07:00, every day).
- Quiet for now. One press for 1, 2 or 4 hours, with a line saying until when. Off ends it immediately.
Your inbox keeps filling, alert cards still appear, pop-ups still show and the app badge still counts. Only the sound stops.
Quiet hours is a setting on this computer, not part of a look file: importing someone's look never changes when your app is allowed to make noise.
The notification bell's own Silence notifications switch is a different, stronger control — it silences the pop-ups too. Quiet hours deliberately does not touch pop-ups.
For agents
Three local routes, all validated:
GET /notifications/sound → volume, each event's {enabled, sound}, and the quiet state
PATCH /notifications/sound → {"volume":0.4}, {"quiet":{"enabled":true,"start":"22:00","end":"07:00","days":[0,1,2,3,4,5,6]}},
{"events":{"error":{"enabled":false}}}
POST /notifications/quiet → {"minutes":60} (or {"minutes":null} to end one early)
GET /notifications/sound answers with the effective state, including quiet.active — true when sounds are quiet right now, from either the window or a one-click pause. An unknown event name is refused rather than stored.
What it deliberately does not do
- It never hides, delays or drops an inbox item, an alert card, a pop-up or the badge.
- It never overrides Focus Mode or the bell's Silence switch — those still win.
- It is not part of a look file, and it does not survive into Safe Mode: both Safe Modes use the stock sounds, the stock volume and no quiet window, so a broken customization cannot change what you hear while you are fixing it.
