AI Project Manager (Omni)
An in-development sidebar page where Omni, your AI project manager, shows the projects that need you and your AI sessions in one place, with one conversation that understands every Mission Control project.
What it is
Omni is the name of the AI project manager. The AI Project Manager page is its home in the sidebar. It is in development, so it is hidden until you switch it on in the Lab.
Where to find it
- Turn it on in Settings > Lab with the switch named AI Project Manager. Until that switch is on, the sidebar row and the page do not exist.
- Once the Lab switch is on, the row appears under AI Tools in the sidebar.
- Mission Control must also be on, because Omni works on your Mission Control projects.
The page
- Projects (left side) groups what needs you:
- Urgent: projects that are late or at risk.
- Needs your OK: things Omni or your agents are waiting on you to approve.
- What changed: recent movement across your projects, including changes to your goals.
- Pick any row and choose Open in Mission Control to go straight to that board or goal.
- Sessions lists your AI sessions for this page, with + New session to start another.
- Welcome screen: the first time you open the page you see a short welcome that explains what Omni can do.
- Off screen: while Omni is off, the page shows Meet Omni and a turn-on card instead of the conversation.
Inside Mission Control
- A thin strip with a ✦ sparkles icon sits on the right edge of Mission Control, beside the Tasks panel. Click it, or the ✦ button in Mission Control's top bar, to open the Omni panel.
- The panel shows your newest Omni conversation, the same one the AI Project Manager page opens on, so you can keep talking to Omni while you look at a board.
- In the panel header, + starts a new session and the expand icon opens the full AI Project Manager page.
- Drag the panel's left edge to make it wider or narrower. Click the arrow at the bottom to tuck it back into the strip. Mission Control remembers both.
- While Omni is off, the panel shows the same invite and turn-on card as the page.
- A small dot on the strip and on the ✦ button means something is urgent or waiting for your OK.
- The panel is for computers. On a phone, use the AI Project Manager page from the sidebar.
On Mission Control Home
- Today: three numbers sit at the top of Home: At risk, Needs your OK and What changed. Click any of them to open the AI Project Manager page. When nothing needs you, one line reads "All clear. Nothing needs you right now."
- The question box is the front door. While Omni is on, the box is titled "Ask Omni" (or your chosen name). A question you type there starts an Omni conversation, which opens in the Omni panel on a computer, or on the AI Project Manager page on a phone.
- While Omni is off, the box stays the free search it always was, and a "Meet Omni" card beside it offers to turn Omni on. Turning it on asks first, and says it runs on your default API key or chosen model.
- None of this appears until the AI Project Manager Lab switch is on.
Choosing the order of the Projects list
In Settings > Mission Control, under the name setting, Order of the Projects list lets you drag Needs your OK and What changed into the order you want, or use the arrows. Urgent always stays first. Reset to default puts them back. The same order shows on your phone.
The sidebar number
The AI Project Manager row in the sidebar shows a number: how many projects are Urgent plus how many things are waiting for your OK. It never counts What changed. The app works the number out once, so your computer and your phone always show the same number. It shows only while Omni is on.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Alt+Ctrl+Shift+O shows or hides the Omni panel. From anywhere else in the app, it opens Mission Control with the panel showing.
- Alt+Ctrl+Shift+N starts a new Omni session and opens it on the AI Project Manager page. While Omni is off, it opens the page so you can turn Omni on.
- Change either key in Settings > Keyboard shortcuts.
Turning Omni on
The Lab switch only makes the page visible. Omni itself has its own switch, Turn on AI Project Manager, in Settings > Mission Control. It also appears as the turn-on card on the page. It is off until you turn it on.
When Omni is on, it runs on your default API key or the model you chose.
What Omni can read
Omni reads all seven kinds of Mission Control project: boards, dashboards, goals, portfolios, documents, spreadsheets and forms. It only reads projects in your own workspaces.
- Ask about a goal, document, spreadsheet or form by name ("how is the Q4 launch goal going?") and Omni answers with what it can see, then offers to keep going in a conversation.
- A workspace-wide summary also counts your goals, documents and other projects.
- If Omni cannot read one kind right now (for example dashboards while the cloud is unreachable), it says so instead of pretending you have none.
- Omni reads only the start of each document and the first rows of each spreadsheet, and treats that text as your data, never as instructions.
- Ask how a project connects ("how does the Q4 Launch goal connect?" or "what is the Launch spec linked to?") and Omni follows the links: a goal's boards, the documents, spreadsheets and forms linked from those boards' items, and the other goals, portfolios and dashboards that share them. If nothing is linked yet, Omni says so.
Linking Mission Control projects to board items
A board item's Links tab now also shows linked goals, documents, spreadsheets, forms and dashboards, each under its own heading. Click one to open it inside Mission Control.
To make a link, open the goal, document, spreadsheet, form or dashboard and choose ⋯ > Link to item. Type at least two letters to search your board items, then click the item. The link shows on that item's Links tab, and Omni can follow it when you ask how projects connect.
Changing the name
Omni is the default name. To call your project manager something else, go to Settings > Mission Control > Name your project manager.
Mobile
The page is marked ready for the phone, so it shows in the phone sidebar when both switches are on.
