Delete a chat

Deleting a chat removes it and everything the app stored for it — messages, search entries, attachments and links — for good. How to delete from the right-click menu or the session menu, the confirm step that stands in front of it, and exactly what goes and what stays.

Archive moves a chat out of the way. Delete is the one that means you are finished with it: the chat and everything the app stored for it are removed, and there is no undo and nothing left in the archive to restore.

Where it is

  • Right-click a chat in the sidebar and choose Delete.
  • Or open a chat and use the ⋯ session menu → Delete….

Both are offered for any single chat, including one you are still running.

The confirm step

Delete never fires on the first click. A dialog names the chat, lists what is about to go, and makes you type the word “Delete” before the button will work. Cancel, and nothing has happened.

What goes

  • The chat itself and its whole transcript.
  • Its entries in search, and the summaries and embeddings built from it.
  • Messages you had queued to send to it.
  • Its attachments and the files the app kept for it.
  • Any public share link and any live share of that chat — the links stop working.
  • Its archived copy, if it had one.

What stays

  • Your project files. Deleting a chat never touches your project folder.
  • Any branch the chat was working on. The work is still on that branch.
  • Its spend, which stays in the app's spend ledger so your usage history is not rewritten.
  • Every other chat. Only the one you named is removed.

If the agent is still running

Delete stops the agent first and only removes anything once it has stopped. If it cannot be stopped, nothing is deleted and you are told so — stop the chat yourself and try again.

Delete from the command line

If you drive Omniscio from its local control server, DELETE /session/<id>?confirm=true performs the same removal as the menu. It only accepts the install-wide CLI token — an agent's own credential is refused — and without ?confirm=true it removes nothing.

When to use Archive instead

Archive keeps everything and is reversible; Delete is neither. If you are tidying up and might want the conversation later, archive it — see archive-a-session.md.
